Kent Crawford
Born in Vancouver in 1956, Kent Crawford studied fine art at the University of California, and received a bachelor degree of science from Western Washington University. However, it is Kent's long experience with the places he now paints, his proximity to nature, sky, land and water that allows his work its intimacy of observation. While his subjects may be common-green foliage, gray rocks, blue waves - the way he transposes them to paint lifts them above the ordinary the same way that poetry raises everyday language to new heights of meaning and emotion.
And just as a poet works at the margins of clear meaning (never as precise as a textbook), so also does Kent avoid simply illustrating scenes. In his pictures there are always abstract patterns and images, some bit of color or line that is not obvious for what it represents. So in Kent's pictures we are both well situated and left to wander.
Kent's work is collected by a variety of corporate and private collectors; such as Air BC, Diamond Fields Resources, and AT&T.
