David Montpetit

Born in 1951 in Edmonton. David, moved to Pender Harbour in 1990 with his wife and four girls. Largely self-taught, David has been following his explorations in glass since then when he first incorporated glass into his metal work, his first passion. Early attempts to integrate the contrasting nature of the two materials led to an almost complete absorption with glass.

I tend to work this material that by nature is fragile and delicate in a more rugged, aggressive manner. I like to play with this contrast between material and subject matter, inviting the viewer to respond to these contradictions. My inspiration comes from the material I like, the challenge as well as the opportunity to reinterpret images in a new and different format.

David's work has been represented in galleries from Hawaii to Alaska, Santa Fe, Toronto, Montreal and the resort areas of Whistler, Banff and Jasper with his work now residing with collectors on all of the continents.
