Lisa Gibbons
The awe-inspiring lifecycle of the Pacific salmon and ocean is the creative source for much of Lisa Gibbons art - a water world of beauty and life. Borrowing tones and shapes from Canada's west coast are the primary images of her paintings and multi-media pieces.
Growing up near world famous Desolation Sound off the coast of British Columbia, Lisa lived on both Redonda and Cortes Island in her formative years. With her family a pioneer of Canadian aquaculture, she went to school every day by skiff. An arts devotee at a young age, she is primarily self-taught, with periods of study at Vancouver's Emily Carr School of Art and Design. Lisa has studied with colour teacher Nora Blanck of Vancouver and apprenticed with some of Canada's best artists. She now resides in Point Grey in Vancouver only minutes from the waters of the Pacific.
Highly prized by many private collectors, her work is shown annually at the Hollyhock Gallery on Cortes Island. In addition, the Impressions Gallery in Campbell River, British Columbia has had many showings of her work. One of her salmon themed paintings graced the cover of Native Ground album and CD from Raven Records in New York. As well, two recent works, Brown Irish Lord and Salmon Queen, were chosen for a show on aquatic themes at New York's Aquasource Gallery.
