When the van Gogh'n gets tough, the tough get Gaugin

Newspapers, the mail and pizza were once the only things a person could get delivered to their door. Now business and homeowners can be major B.C. art collectors without stepping past their front step.

Like the mountain coming to Moses, Board member D'or Art Limited's "Gallery on the Go" has found a niche in the art world by bringing its collection of west coast work to homes or offices. Started four years ago by Doris Anderson, Vancouver's Gallery on the Go will exhibit its varied collection wherever most convenient. Anderson says her unique concept can be used as a focal point for company receptions. Like a tupperware party, an art show provides a perfect social/buying opportunity for employees and for home gatherings. Clients have included Deloitte & Touche, Davis & Co. and Ladner Downs.

Anderson says Gallery on the Go's concept makes things less stuffy for people who feel intimidated by downtown galleries. It also makes things easier for people to tell whether their choice would highlight the boardroom or clash with the living room carpet. Anderson says Gallery on the Go allows her to inform people who who might not normally be listed in the social pages for a downtown exhibit opening.

"There is a view of art as elitist. We're hoping to tear down these walls by educating people of its value," says Anderson.
